Tar Sands Healing Walk, 2013 In July of 2013, eight of us from as far away as Nebraska, journeyed 1,000 miles north to the tar sands of Alberta to join the First Nations (Native Americans) at their fourth annual Healing Walk. We saw first-hand the scale of environmental devastation caused by producing crude oil from mining tar sands. Six of us, including Helen Yost, James Blakely, Anne Remaley, Pat and Dan Rathmann, and Pat Fuerst, will be sharing what we saw and learned, and connecting that with the local megaloads, climate change, huge pipeline projects, moral issues, and impacts on people.
