The inaugural PCEI Sustainability Festival will bring together local businesses, community groups and individuals interested in creating a healthy, innovative and more sustainable Palouse. PCEI has identified water, food, waste, energy, ecology and health as the pillars of sustainability. Bring the family and come learn from local experts on ways to reduce your impact! Community Partners will have hands-on demonstrations and activities for all ages.
Walter Echo-Hawk (Pawnee Tribe) is a Native American attorney, speaker, activist and author. He will be discussing his new book, “In the Light of Justice: The Rise of Human Rights in Native America and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.”
Keynote speakers: Emma Marris, author of Rambunctious Garden: Saving Nature in a Post-Wild World and R. Ford Denison, professor in Ecology and Evolution at the University of Minnesota. Can geothermal energy aid in mitigating climate change? University of Idaho PhD candidate Cary Lindsey will give a talk on the “Future of Geothermal Energy” Tuesday, January 20, in the 1912 Center Fiske Room at 7:30 p.m. She will discuss her research from Yellowstone Park and other “hot spots” as well as local geothermal projects. She will give an overview of geothermal energy including her research from Yellowstone Park and other “hot spots” and discuss geothermal energy opportunities in Idaho.
