PESC Update – November 4th

Mock Oil Spill this Monday, 12-4 p.m.

A Mock Oil Spill event on Terrell Mall at WSU, on the Todd Hall steps from 12pm-4pm on November 5th. At 12 noon, Bob Grandchamp will speak about his experience as an Americorps volunteer during the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. At 12:30 pm Pierre Wensel will speak about alternatives to petrochemical fuels, including his algae research. Everyone in the Palouse community is welcome to join in picketing, helping to cleanup the “oil spill”, or just coming to be a part of this environmentally conscious event. The event is being organized by the ASWSU Environmental Task Force, WSU Environmental Science Club, and WSU Wellbeing.

Palouse Food Innovation Summit this Monday, 11:30-4:30 (Livestock 8-11:30)

At 1912 Center; the afternoon session from 1-4:30 looks especially relevant and well-planned. See details on attached flyer; it appears that everything is free including lunch and registration did not seem to have a deadline: www.uidaho.edu/localfoodregistration .

“TIPPING POINT: THE END OF OIL” Premier this Friday, 11/9, 7 pm

This is the Moscow premier of this film, the 2nd in a series on the Alberta tar sands. This prize-winning documentary narrated by Sigourney Weaver describes the biggest construction project on the planet in the Alberta tar sands which is destroying a Canadian wilderness and costing lives. Refreshments will be served. The public is invited to this free presentation on Friday, November 9, at 7pm at the UUCP basement, 420 E 2nd St., sponsored by PESC and the Unitarian Church.
