Our next meeting is Sunday, 10/21 at noon at the UUCP Yellow House. Draft agenda below.

Transition Town

The next Transition Town meeting will be this Wednesday, 10/17 at 6 pm at the Yellow House.

Dana Lyons Concert

“The Great Coal Train Tour” concert by Dana Lyons will be here Friday 10/19, 7 p.m., at the UUCP church, upstairs. The event is being organized by Wild Idaho Rising Tide. Please let me know if you can bring an appetizer, finger food, or a dessert that is easy to serve.

Petition

Pat Monger has created a petition requesting Obama to honor his promise to work on global warming issues. I encourage you to log in and sign it. I did!

From Pat Monger: Dear friends, I wanted to let you know about a new petition I created on We the People, a new feature on WhiteHouse.gov, and ask for your support. Will you add your name to mine? If this petition gets 25,000 signatures by November 11, 2012, the White House will review it and respond!

We the People allows anyone to create and sign petitions asking the Obama Administration to take action on a range of issues. If a petition gets enough support, the Obama Administration will issue an official response. You can view and sign the petition here: http://wh.gov/KEBo

Honor your campaign promise to work to reverse the deleterious effects of global warming during your first term as Pres.Global warming may be the most urgent crisis facing the entire planet. There is no longer any doubt among the legitimate scientific community that man is to blame. Therefore, it is man’s responsibility to do whatever is necessary to mitigate its deliterious effects on the air, water, plants, animals and humans of this earth. Our children and grandchildren deserve to inherit the same unspoiled world that we inherited from our parents and grandparents.

News Updates from Borg Hendrickson

Romney Boehm recommends the news updates from Borg Hendrickson, chicory@wildblue.net. These are focused on issues of interest to all of us. The updates come out only a couple times a month and are in an easy – to scan format. I have joined the list myself and you can join by sending an email to Borg. She is associated with “The Rural People of Highway 12 Fighting Goliath”: http://www.fightinggoliath.org/.
Here are two samples:
Coming in October on PBS’s Frontline: A Climate of Doubt (October 23) examines the cooling of the global warming issue in today’s political arena. Four years ago, climate change was a hot issue and politicians from both sides seemed poised to act. Today public opinion on the climate issue has cooled considerably. Politicians either ignore it or proclaim their skepticism. What’s behind this massive reversal? On Oct 23, FRONTLINE goes inside the organizations that fought the scientific establishment to shift the direction of the climate debate.
